Farmers of the state, take note: Under the `Raitha Sanjeevini Yojana’, you will get Rs. 1 lakh insurance.!

The Karnataka government has launched the ‘Raitha Sanjeevini’ Accident Insurance Scheme to help farmer families who face hardship due to unexpected accidents while engaged in agricultural activities. Under this scheme, farmers and their families are provided financial security in case of death or disability during agricultural activities.

Who is eligible?

Farmers and their family members between the age group of 15 to 60 years residing in the State Agricultural Produce Marketing Committees (APMC) and under the jurisdiction of which the insurance is applicable are covered under this scheme.

In which cases is the insurance applicable?

Compensation can be availed in case of accidents during the following agricultural related work:

Field work: Ploughing, sowing, weeding, spraying of fertilizers and pesticides and harvesting of crops.

Transportation: Accidents that occur while transporting agricultural produce to or from the market by bullock cart or tractor.

Preparation: While making hay or threshing in the field.

Other activities: Accidents that occur while digging wells or borewells for agricultural purposes, snake bites or attacks by wild animals and while grazing livestock or transporting them to the market.

What is the amount of compensation?

In case of death: If a farmer dies while engaged in agricultural activities, his family will be given a compensation of ₹1.00 lakh.

In case of disability: Depending on the severity of the accident, financial assistance ranging from ₹10,000 to ₹50,000 will be provided.

How to apply?

Application should be submitted with appropriate documents within 100 days of the accident. The accident victim or the heir should apply to the concerned Agricultural Product Marketing Committee (APMC) Secretary. Necessary documents and photograph should be attached with the application. The committee will review the submitted application and recommend it to the Divisional Office of the Board. In case the application is rejected, the Managing Director of the Board is allowed to appeal.

When is there no solution? (Unqualifiers) :Suicide, accidents due to alcohol or drug use, natural calamities like natural death, lightning, floods, death/disabledness caused by involvement in riots or riots are not compensated under this scheme.
