The Karnataka government has implemented the ‘Sandhya Suraksha Yojana’ to enable senior citizens who are struggling to live a dignified life without the support of children or relatives in their old age. Under this scheme, money is directly deposited into the bank accounts of eligible senior citizens every month.
Key Benefits of the Scheme
Monthly Pension: Currently, eligible beneficiaries under this scheme are given a pension of Rs. 1,200 per month. This may change from time to time as per the government orders.
Direct Cash Transfer (DBT): The pension amount is directly deposited in the beneficiary’s bank account or post office account.
Eligibility to apply
- Age Limit: The applicant should be 65 years of age or above.
- Income Limit: The total annual income of the beneficiary and his/her spouse should be less than Rs. 20,000.
- Poverty Line: The applicant should have a BPL card.
- No other pension: The applicant should not already be receiving any other old age pension or social security pension from the government.
- Continuous Residence: Must be a resident of Karnataka.
Required Documents
The following documents should be kept ready at the time of application:
- Age Proof: Aadhar Card, Voter ID Card or Birth Certificate.
- Income Certificate: Income Certificate obtained from the Tahsildar’s office.
- Residence Proof: Ration Card or Aadhar Card.
- Bank Details: Copy of Bank Passbook and Bank Account Linked to Aadhar.
- Photograph: Recent passport size photographs of the applicant.
How to Apply
Applying for this scheme is now very simple:
- Online: You can apply through the ‘Seva Sindhu’ portal in person or through cyber cafes.
- Directly: You can apply by visiting the nearest Nadakacheri, Atal Jee Janasnehi Kendra, Gram One or Bangalore One centers.
- Village Administrator (VA): You can also get information from the Village Administrator of your village.
Points to note: After submitting the application, the Revenue Department officials will conduct an on-site inspection to verify your eligibility. Only then will the pension be sanctioned. If the pension payment is stopped or if you want to add a new name, it is best to contact the Tahsildar office of your taluk.
