What is CGHS?
CGHS is a scheme that provides medical care through various welfare centres, empaneled hospitals and diagnostic centers across India. In this the beneficiaries have to pay a small amount of Rs.250 to Rs.1000 every month according to their monthly income. CGHS runs dispensaries across the country where beneficiaries can access medicines prescribed by doctors working with the scheme.

CGHS card in private hospitals
Private hospitals empaneled under CGHS can provide healthcare to cardholders. Such hospitals have signed an agreement with the government to provide medical services at CGHS rates, which are lower than what is charged to general patients. This panel ensures that CGHS beneficiaries can access specialized treatments not available in government hospitals.
What is the claim process of CGHS?
The claim process involves submitting medical bills and documents to the CGHS offices to seek reimbursement of medical expenses. Reimbursement of medical expenses must be requested within three months. Maximum benefit per family cannot exceed Rs 5 lakh per annum.
