Good news for the homeless: these documents are mandatory to apply for ‘PM Awas Yojana’!

Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) 2.0, the government aims to build 3 crore additional houses. Now those with an income of Rs 15,000 per month are also eligible for the scheme and will be allotted houses within 90 days.

The online application process is very simple and the survey will start soon to identify the eligible persons.

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) is a flagship scheme of the government aimed at providing housing to economically weaker sections of the country. The scheme was launched by the central government on 25 June 2015 and since then it has helped millions of people realize their dream of owning a home. Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana 2.0, the government now aims to build an additional 3 crore houses, for which it has earmarked Rs 10 lakh crore this financial year.

Change in scheme eligibility.!

In Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana 2.0 some significant changes have been made in the eligibility conditions so that more people can avail the benefits of the scheme. Earlier, individuals with monthly income up to Rs 10,000 are eligible for this scheme. This limit has now been increased to Rs 15,000 per month. Moreover, middle class families will also be able to benefit from this scheme.

Further, those who previously owned a two-room mud house, a fridge or a two-wheeler are not eligible for this scheme. But, now in this new scheme these rules have been relaxed. Now despite these facilities, individuals can avail the benefits of this scheme. The selection process is more transparent where eligible persons are selected through public meetings at the village level.

You will get your house in 90 days!

The government has announced that under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana 2.0, houses will be provided to eligible persons in just 90 days. For this, the government will soon start a survey to identify all the eligible people to take advantage of the scheme. A survey will be conducted to ensure that every poor person in urban and rural areas gets houses.

How to apply for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana?

To avail the benefits of this scheme, the application process has been simplified and digitized. Interested candidates can apply online by visiting PM Awas Yojana official website pmaymis.gov.in. The application process is as follows.

  • Select the option ‘Benefits under other 3 units’ in the ‘Civic Assessment’ menu of the website.
  • Enter Aadhaar Card Number and Name.
  • After verifying the Aadhaar number, the application page will be opened where the applicant can fill all their information.
  • After filling all the required information, enter the captcha and click on the ‘Save’ button.
  • Download the application form, take a printout of it and keep it safe for future.
  • After this, go to the nearest Common Service Center (CSC) or bank and submit the application form along with the necessary documents.
  • You can track the application status on the website by assessee ID or name, father’s name and mobile number.

Who can apply?

  • If there are only males in the family, they can still apply.
  • Candidates should be at least 70 years of age.
  • The house should not already be in the name of the applicant or his family members.
  • Beneficiary should not have benefited from any government housing scheme in the past.
  • It is the government’s intention that the ownership of the house should be in the name of the woman. It is an attempt to empower women economically.

Who benefits?
To extend the benefits of the scheme to all citizens, the government has divided it into four categories, which are as follows.
Economically Weaker Class (EWS) : This is the lowest income class. Families belonging to this category get more assistance under the housing scheme.
Low Income Group (LIG) : The income of the families falling under this category is slightly higher than the EWS category. They also get a lot of assistance under the housing scheme.
Middle Income Group-I (MIG-I) : The income of families falling under this category is higher than LIG category.
Middle Income Group-II (MIG-II) : This is the highest income group. Families in this category receive less assistance as compared to other categories.
