Voter ID Card is one of the most important documents to vote during elections in the country. It is used as an identity card along with voting. But sometimes there may be errors in many information including name, address, date of birth or photo in the old voter card.
To address such issues and with modern security features, the Election Commission has introduced a new type of PVC colored voter ID card.
What is a PVC voter ID card?
A PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) card is a voter ID card made of hard plastic, similar to an ATM or debit card. It is more attractive, durable and easy to read than the old black and white voter ID card. The color photo makes it easy to identify the voter.
Who can apply?
Any Indian citizen of 18 years of age or above, whose name is in the electoral roll, can apply for a PVC voter ID card. This facility is available to those who want to make corrections in the old card and also to those who want to get a new PVC card.
How much is the fee for a new PVC voter ID card?
A fee has to be paid to get a new colored PVC voter ID card. This amount can also be paid at the concerned Registration Centre, E-Seva or Mee Seva centres.
How to get a colored voter ID card in India?
You can easily get a colored voter ID card online in India. Here are the steps to follow:
- Step 1: Open the official voter portal.
- Step 2: Now, fill in your credentials and login to your account on the voter portal. If you do not have an account, sign up by filling in all the required details.
- Step 3: Once you are logged in, you need to select the link that specifies the registration of a new PVC voter ID card.
- Step 4: Fill in all your details including the contact number.
- Step 5: Now, you will be asked to upload your current colour photograph.
- Step 6: Now, select the ‘Submit’ option.
- Step 7: After submitting your details, you will receive a confirmation code on your registered contact number.
- Step 8: Fill in the code, you will get an identification code on your voter card.
- Step 9: Once the process is complete, you will keep receiving updates via SMS on your registered contact number.
- Step 10: The PVC colored voter card will be delivered to your doorstep within 40-60 days.

What are the steps to download a colored voter ID card online?
A colored voter ID card can be easily downloaded online by following the steps given below:
- Step 1: Open the official website of NVSP.
- Step 2: Login to your account by filling the details and captcha.
- Step 3: After logging in to your account, select the option ‘e-Epic Download’.
- Step 4: Now, after you login, you have to enter your contact number and a one-time password (OTP) will come to your contact number.
- Step 5: After you fill the OTP, you can download your colored voter ID card online.
Who is eligible to apply for Coloured Voter ID Cards?
The eligibility requirement for applying for Coloured Voter ID Cards is that one should be at least 18 years of age, and if their name appears in the electoral roll, they are eligible to use this Coloured Voter ID Card during the general elections.
