The government has issued a strict order that no new village assistants should be recruited in the state revenue department without the prior permission of the government.
Additional Chief Secretary of the Revenue Department, Rajender Kumar Kataria, issued an official circular in this regard on June 05, 2026, warning of strict action against Tahsildars who violate the rules.
Recruitment in violation of rules: Warning to Tahsildars
To assist the work of Village Administrative Officers (VA) in the state revenue department and for administrative convenience at the local level, a total of 10,450 posts of Village Assistants have been created on a permanent basis on a moderate salary basis. In the interest of administration, the government has been creating additional new circles of Village Administrative Officers from time to time.
However, the government has not sanctioned any additional posts of village assistants for the newly created circles of village administrative officers. However, it has come to the notice of the government that some Tahsildars are flouting the rules and appointing village assistants to new circles without sanction.
Difficulty in releasing salaries, government’s stern warning
There is a shortage of funds for the payment of salaries of village assistants who have been appointed without prior approval of the government for posts without sanction. Currently, proposals are being submitted to the government to release salaries for such personnel.
In this context, the Revenue Department, which has taken notice, has issued strict instructions to all the regional commissioners, district collectors, sub-divisional officers and tehsildars in the state, saying, “In future, no village assistants should be appointed without the prior permission of the government.”
