Attention Motorists: Lost your DL’? Just get a Duplicate License’ like this!

A driving license is the most important legal document for driving a vehicle on the road. However, sometimes, due to carelessness or any other reason, this valuable document can get lost or damaged.

In such a situation, it is common for people to rush to the RTO office or get scared by the middlemen (brokers).

But you don’t need to worry anymore. With the help of the Government of India’s ‘Parivahan Sewa’ portal, you can apply for a duplicate DL online from the comfort of your home. Driving without a driving license is illegal and if caught, you may have to pay a fine of up to Rs 5,000.

So here is the complete process to get a duplicate DL online:

Step 1 of Online Application Submission:

First, open the official website of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (parivahan.gov.in) on your mobile or computer.

Go to the ‘online services’ option on the home page and click on ‘driving licence related services’.
Then a list of states will appear on your screen. Select the name of your state (for example: Karnataka).

How to apply:

After opening a new page, select the option ‘Apply for Duplicate DL’ that appears there.
Here, enter your old driving licence number (DL Number) and your exact date of birth and proceed.
Now your complete information will appear on the screen. After checking it properly, click on the ‘Confirm’ button.

Required documents and fee payment:

After this, a small form will open. In it, you have to select the reason for getting the licence again (for example: lost or damaged).

In case your license is stolen, it is mandatory to upload a copy of the online FIR filed with the police.

In the last step, pay the prescribed government fee online through net banking or UPI and download the receipt and keep it.

New license at your doorstep:
As soon as the fee is paid, your application will be directly sent to the concerned RTO office for verification. You can check the status of your DL on the website anytime using the Application Number provided in the application receipt. Once the RTO officials verify your documents and complete the process, the new duplicate driving license will be sent to your registered address via speed post.
