DK Shivakumar, who took office as the new Chief Minister of the state, has announced a significant gift for the student community. He has announced that he will provide free bus passes to all students studying in schools and colleges in the state.
This announcement is expected to reduce the transportation costs of thousands of students and give a further boost to education. Although the bus pass will be free for students, the application process will continue as it is now. The application will have to be submitted as per the previous rules. The difference is that students will not have to pay any fee to get the pass.
How to apply for a free bus pass?
Students can apply through the SevaSindhu portal. The application can be submitted through the following channels:
- Through cyber centers
- At Bangalore One centers
- Online through mobile or computer
Only a prescribed service charge may be applicable while submitting the application.
What are the required documents?
Students applying for a bus pass should keep these documents ready:
Aadhaar card
Admission receipt for the current academic year
Two passport-sized photographs
Attestation from school or college is mandatory
After completing the online application, the student should obtain the signature and official seal of the head of the educational institution where he is studying. Only then will the application be considered for verification.
What is the approval process like?
The application will be reviewed and approved by the bus pass department officials. After the application is approved, an SMS message will be sent to the student’s registered mobile number.
This time the pass will be distributed free of cost without paying any pass fee.
Free travel facility for female students already
Under the state government’s Shakti Yojana, free bus travel facility is already available for women and female students. Therefore, female students do not need to get a separate bus pass.
