There is good news from the government for the lakhs of Below Poverty Line (BPL) ration card holders in Karnataka. The state government will start distributing special “Indira Food Kits” from November 2025. Food and Civil Supplies Minister K.H. Muniyappa has officially announced this exciting news.
Through these kits, households will be able to get basic food items required for daily cooking free of cost. This will reduce the monthly expenditure of the family and further strengthen food security.
How did this scheme come about?
This scheme is an extension of the “Annabhagya” scheme already running in the state. As of now, every BPL family is getting 10 kg. Rice. In addition to this, other food items are also provided through Indira Food Kits.
What is in the Indira food kit?

How do I get the kit?
- The kits are distributed at fair price shops.
- You just need to go to the shop where you normally get ration.
- The government has made large-scale storage, packing and transportation arrangements for this.
Do you have any doubts about whether your card has been changed to APL?
According to the minister, in the next 2 days, food offices will change the cards that were mistakenly APL back to BPL. So that no one is deprived of benefits.
