Here I am providing some important topics and notes related to TET (Secondary School Teacher Eligibility Test) Urdu Language. These notes cover various units of the syllabus and are helpful in preparing for the exam.

TET Urdu Language Notes

Unit 1: History and Development of Urdu Language

· Origin: Urdu language belongs to the Indo-Aryan language family. It originated from Hindavi/Hindustani language based on Khariboli (Dehlavi) in medieval India.
· Influence: Urdu language has influence from Sanskrit, Prakrit, Arabic, Persian and Turkic languages.
· Meaning of name: The word “Urdu” is derived from the Turkic word “ordu” (military camp). It was initially called “Jaban-e-Urdu-e-Mualla” (language of the fort and camp).
· Script: Urdu is written in the Perso-Arabic script, which is a left-to-right script.
· Historical development: Urdu developed during the Bahmani Sultanate in South India and during the Mughal court in North India.

Unit 2: Urdu Grammar

  1. Parts of Speech

· Noun (Ism – इसम): The name of a person, place, thing, or feeling.
· Types: Common Noun (Ism-e-Aam), Collective Noun (Ism-e-Jama), Possessive Noun (Ism-e-Masdar).
· Pronoun (Zamir – जमिर): A word used in place of a noun.
· Types: Personal Pronoun (Zamir-e-Shakhsi), Relative Pronoun (Zamir-e-Izafi), Direct Pronoun (Zamir-e-Ishara).
· Verb (Fe’l): A word that indicates an action.
· Tense: Present (Haal), Past (Maazi), Future (Mustaqbil).
· Subject: Predicate (Fa’il Ma’rafa), Action (Maf’ool Ma’rafa).
· Adjective (Sifat): A word that describes the quality of a noun.
· Verb (Mutaliq-e-Fe’l): A word that describes a verb.
· Preposition (Harf): A word that shows the relationship between words.
· Types: Conjunction (Harf-e-Atf), Preposition (Harf-e-Jaar).

  1. Sentence Structure (Jumlay Ki Qismein): A sentence with a single purpose.
    · Compound Sentence (Murakkab Jumla – मुरक्कब जुमला): A sentence that combines two or more simple sentences.
    · Parts of Sentence: Subject (Fa’il – फाइल), Action (Maf’ool – मफूळ), Verb (Fe’l – फेल).
  2. Gender, Noun and Function (Jins, Aedad, Muraf)

· Gender (Jins – जिनस): Masculine (Muzakkar – मुजक्कर) and Feminine (Muannas – मुउँनस).
· Noun (Aedad – आईदाद): Singular (Wahid – वाहद) and Plural (Jama – जमा).
· Function (Muraf – मुआरफ): Indicates the position and function of a noun in a sentence.

Unit 3: Urdu Literature

· Poetry (Shayari – शायरी)
· Ghazal (Ghazal – घजल): A genre of poetry that expresses love, philosophy and the subtle aspects of life.
· Nazm (Nazm – नजम): A form of poetry written on a single theme.
· Masnavi (Masnavi – मसन्वी): A long poem, usually containing love or moral stories.
· Rubai (Rubai – रुबाई): A four-line poem, the fourth line of which has a special meaning.
· Prose (Nasr – नसर)
· Novel (Novel – नवाल): A long prose story.
· Story (Afssana – अफसाना): A short story.
· Drama (Drama – ड्रामा): Literature written for the stage.
· Biography (Sawaneh Hayat – सवानेह हयात).
· Important Literary Personalities
· Mirza Ghalib: A famous poet in Urdu and Persian.
· Allama Iqbal: Poet, philosopher and political thinker.
· Saadat Hasan Manto: Famous short story writer.
· Premchand: Famous short story writer and novelist in Hindi and Urdu.
· Faiz Ahmed Faiz: Progressive poet.

Unit 4: Teaching of Language Skills

· Listening Skill (Samajh – संजह): Students’ ability to understand what they have heard.
· Speaking Skill (Guftagu – गुफतगु): Ability to speak with correct pronunciation and grammar.
· Reading Skill (Qirat – कीरात): Ability to read and understand various texts.
· Writing Skill (Inshta – इंशा): Ability to write with correct grammar, script and style.

Tips for Exam Preparation:

  1. Focus on Grammar: Grammar is a very important part of the exam. Apply good mastery over nouns, verbs, sentence structure.
  2. Knowledge of Literature: Familiarity with important writers, poets and their works is essential.
  3. Knowledge of Urdu script: Must be able to read and write correctly in Perso-Arabic script.
  4. Question paper pattern: Solve previous years’ question papers, understand the pattern and duration of questions.
  5. Time management: Allocate time for each section in the exam.
