Handloom weaving is one of the traditional industries of Karnataka. The Handloom Development Scheme has been launched by the Department of Handlooms and Textiles, Government of Karnataka. Through this scheme, the aim is to develop innovative skills in handloom weaving and to involve young talents in the industry.
This scheme provides support for the purchase of necessary equipment to sustain the traditional craft of handloom weaving. The scheme provides 75 percent subsidy on the cost of purchasing necessary equipment for handloom weaving.

What equipment can be purchased under the scheme?
- Handlooms
- Electronic Jacquards
- Knotting Machines
- Bedding Machines
How much loan and subsidy is available?
- 50% subsidy of the total cost for individual purchase of new handlooms.
- 75% subsidy of the total cost for cooperative societies purchasing new handlooms.
- 90% subsidy of the total cost for weavers belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
- Electronic jacquard machines will be provided to increase handloom production.
What are the qualifications?
- Must be a member of the Handloom Weavers Cooperative Societies or Handloom Societies, Karnataka Development Corporation.
- Traditional weavers should be currently engaged in handloom weaving.
- Must have a weaver’s identity card.
- Young men and women starting the profession should have received training in handloom weaving.
- Must have a certificate of training.
- Weavers purchasing a knotting machine should have experience.
- Must have the necessary space for installing the machine.
How to apply?
To get this scheme, you have to apply directly. Here is the information on how to apply..
You have to visit the district level handloom and textile department and get the application. Fill in the information asked in the application and attach the necessary documents. Then submit the application form to the district level office. Get a receipt for the application from the concerned officer.
