Karnataka’s flagship Gruhalakshmi scheme is undergoing a major revision. The government is introducing new rules including door-to-door verification and mandatory Aadhaar linking of the husband to remove ineligible beneficiaries.
The Karnataka government is carrying out a large-scale revision of its ambitious Gruhalakshmi Scheme. New guidelines are being brought in to ensure that only eligible beneficiaries receive the benefit and to weed out ineligible ones. These changes will directly impact lakhs of women beneficiaries.
Key Highlights of the New Rules
- Husband’s Aadhaar Linking Mandatory
Under the new rule, not only the beneficiary woman’s Aadhaar but also her husband’s Aadhaar number must be linked . This step helps verify the family’s financial status.
- Bank Account Without Loans Required
The bank account provided by beneficiaries must not have any loan linkage. If an account with an outstanding loan is submitted, the monthly ₹2,000 transfer may be stopped .
- Door-to-Door Verification and Biometric Authentication
Officials or enumerators will visit beneficiaries’ homes directly for verification. During this, face recognition or biometric authentication and GPS-based home photo upload will be done . If documents are not provided or verification fails, the money will stop.
- Clear Criteria for Disqualification
Benefits will not be available under the following conditions :
· If the beneficiary or her husband is an income tax payer;
· If the beneficiary or her husband files GST returns;
· If the family includes government employees.
- Name and Address Must Match Exactly
The name and address on the Aadhaar card, bank account, and ration card must match completely. Even a minor discrepancy can cause the transfer to fail .
Positive News from the Government
Protection from Loan Deduction: Earlier, some banks were deducting Gruhalakshmi money credited to beneficiaries’ accounts toward loan repayment. The government has put a stop to this, issuing a clear order that no bank or institution may deduct Gruhalakshmi funds for loans or interest .
Summary
Through this revision, the Karnataka government is moving the Gruhalakshmi Scheme from “blind benefit” toward “precise targeting.” For eligible beneficiaries, the scheme continues; but ineligible ones will gradually be filtered out. Beneficiaries should prepare their documents soon and cooperate with the door-to-door verification.
