What are the responsibilities of a Ticket Collector?

Checking and validating passenger tickets during train travel.

Checking passenger details in reserved and unreserved coaches.

Imposing fines on ticketless passengers and violators.

Guiding passengers on platforms and at enquiry counters.

Eligibility and Age Limit
Eligibility: Candidates should have passed 12th (PUC) from a recognized board. Graduation is required for some higher level posts.

Age Limit: Generally, the age of the candidates should be between 18 to 30 years. Age relaxation is available for SC, ST, OBC and other reserved category candidates as per government rules.

How is the selection process done?
Railway Ticket Collector selection is mainly conducted in three stages:

Computer Based Test (CBT): This is the first stage of the test, in which questions are asked on General Awareness, Mathematics, General Intelligence and Reasoning.

Document Verification: Candidates who have qualified in the written test will be called for verification of original documents.

Medical Test: The physical fitness and mainly eye-sight of the candidate are tested as per the Railway norms and final selection is made.

Salary and Promotion Details
Salary: Ticket Collector is paid an attractive salary as per the 7th Pay Commission. Along with the initial basic pay, DA, HRA and transport allowances are available.

Promotion: On the basis of good performance and seniority, one can get promotion to the posts of Senior Ticket Collector, Head Ticket Collector and Chief Ticket Inspector.
