How to get a birth certificate online? Here is the step-by-step information

Birth certificate is a must for every citizen. This certificate is a necessary document for everyone from birth to death for various purposes. It is an official document of a person’s birth and contains your name, date of birth, place of birth and parents’ details.

This is an important document required for school admission, passport, Aadhar card, and voter ID card. It can be obtained after birth in hospitals, from hospitals or concerned government offices. In Karnataka, it can be obtained online through the Seva Sindhu portal.

How to obtain it online in Karnataka?

  • Visit the website sevasindhu.karnataka.gov.in. This is the official website of the Seva Sindhu portal. Create an account or login there to get started with your application.
  • Click on ‘Department and Services’, then select ‘Planning, Programme Monitoring and Statistics Department’.
  • Select ‘Birth Certificate’ and click on ‘Apply Online’.
  • After providing the required details (date of birth, child’s name, father’s/mother’s name), make the payment and download the certificate.
  • Check Application Status: To check the status of your application, log in to the Seva Sindhu portal using your registration number and password.

You can also go to the office in person and get the certificate. Here is the information.

Offline:

-You can apply at the hospital where the child was born or at the concerned office/gram panchayat.

-Required identity proofs of the applicant and parents should be provided.

In case of delay:

-If you apply within 21 days of birth, you will get a free certificate.

-After 21 days, a fine will have to be paid, and there will be a specific process for applying for up to one year.

Significant changes

-The Central Government has made birth certificate mandatory and has directed hospitals to issue it before the mother of the child is discharged from the hospital.

-The Birth and Death Registration Act, 1969 has been amended, making it possible to expedite and make birth registration mandatory.
