The Central Government has launched many schemes for the empowerment of women. One of the important schemes launched recently is the Namo Drone Didi Yojana. This scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 30, 2023, with the aim of providing drones to 15,000 selected women self-help groups across the country during the period 2024-25 to 2025-26. The Central Government launched the Namo Drone Didi Yojana in 2023.
Women are also being empowered in the field of agriculture through drones. Along with this, they are also getting the opportunity to do farming with new technology, the Namo Drone Didi Yojana is a revolutionary scheme of the Modi government that aims to empower women-led Self Help Groups (SHGs) by equipping them with drone technology. The scheme will initially seek to provide drones to 15,000 selected women in SHGs for agricultural purposes
15-day training
Under the Namo Drone Didi Yojana, women will be provided with 15 days of unique training. This training will teach skills at various levels, starting from flying the drone, to drone maintenance, drone use in agriculture (pesticide and fertilizer spraying, crop inspection, sowing) and data analysis. The training will include 5 days of required drone pilot training and 10 days of agriculture-related training. In addition, the selected women will be provided with a financial assistance of Rs. 15,000.
Key features of the scheme:
Each women’s self-help group will be provided with a subsidy of 80% or a maximum of Rs. 8 lakh for the purchase of a drone.
There is also a loan facility at an interest rate of 3% for the remaining amount.
Drones can be rented to farmers for spraying pesticides and fertilizers in agriculture.
Through this, each group will get at least Rs. 1 lakh per year. Additional income.
The government will provide free training and technical guidance in flying drones.
Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), various departments and companies are collaborating in the implementation of the scheme.
Who can benefit?
Women aged 18 years or above are eligible.
Applicants should belong to the lower economic strata (end-of-life families, BPL, less than 60% annual income).
Women directly or indirectly associated with the agriculture sector can apply for this scheme.
Selected women should be members of Self Help Groups (SHGs) and should be registered under the DAY-NRLM scheme.
Under this scheme, women will get expertise in technology, financial self-reliance and new opportunities in agriculture.
