The state government has decided to rename Ramanagara district as ‘Bangalore South District’.
This decision was taken in a cabinet meeting chaired by CM Siddaramaiah at Vidhana Soudha today.
After the cabinet meeting, DCM D.K. Shivakumar spoke at a press conference and said, ”An important decision has been taken to rename Ramanagara district as Bangalore South District.”
”Ramanagara will be the district headquarters. There will be no change in the district headquarters of Ramanagara. A decision has been made to change the name of Ramanagara district, and an official order will be issued in this regard,” he said.
”There will be no cost to change the name. Ramanagara was earlier part of Bangalore district.
Kanakapura, Channapatna were part of Bangalore district. Earlier, I was also a member of the Zilla Panchayat of Bangalore district. The name Bangalore should have been retained. That is why we have changed the name,” he clarified.
“You should also call me from Bangalore South district from now on.
The center had no authority to change the name. It should have been brought to the attention of the center, so we just sent the name. Bangalore South is growing big in the world. We have changed the name keeping in mind the legal framework. Otherwise, there will be no change in the constituency. It will remain as it is at present,” he informed.
