A mobile application for the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme was launched by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi on Monday.
The app provides various facilities including clean design and intuitive interface with easy navigation, easy registration through Aadhaar face authentication and real time alerts to let candidates know about new updates.
Appreciating the Prime Minister’s vision in introducing a package of five schemes to promote employment, skills and opportunities, the Union Minister said the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme has the potential to bridge the gap between classroom learning and industry expectations, thereby increasing the employability of the youth.
Industry should actively participate in this project. He said their involvement will contribute to nation building along with developing a skilled workforce in the country.
Minister of State for Corporate Affairs Harsh Malhotra said the launch of the PMIS app will significantly increase access to internship opportunities for youth.
The Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme was announced in the Budget 2024-25. It aims to provide internship opportunities to one crore youth in top 500 companies within five years. As a part of this scheme, a pilot scheme aimed at providing 1.25 lakh internship opportunities to the youth was launched in October last year.
In the first round of the pilot scheme, around 280 companies across 25 sectors had offered more than 1.27 lakh opportunities in around 745 districts. More than 82,000 offers were made to the candidates. The second round of the pilot scheme started in January 2025 and around 327 companies have posted more than 1.18 lakh opportunities. The internship application window for this round is open till the end of this month.
