The PM CARES scheme for children is a scheme run by the Central Government for students. The Central Government provides financial assistance of Rs 50,000 per year to every eligible and needy student for their studies.
Scholarships and education loans are also being sanctioned under this scheme
The central government has announced that 4,543 students in 33 states and union territories are getting benefits under the PM Cares for Children scheme. This was disclosed by Union Minister of State for Women and Child Development Savitri Thakur in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha. A total of 9,332 applications have been received on the PM Cares for Children portal in 613 districts of the country. Out of these, 524 applications were found to be fake. The remaining 8,808 applications have been verified by the District Level Child Welfare Committees and the concerned District Magistrates or Collectors. Based on their final approval, 4,543 beneficiaries are getting benefits under this scheme, Minister Savitri Thakur said.

Registration under this scheme is still open. Eligible applicants should not worry that they are left behind. Thakur said in his written reply that there is still time to register.
Details of the Prime Minister’s Child Care Scheme
The PM CARES Scheme for Children was launched by the Central Government on May 29, 2021. In the wake of the death of parents and the deprivation of education of children of that family due to the Corona pandemic, the Government of India launched this scheme to provide financial assistance to them. Under this scheme, the objective of ‘PM CARES’ is to support children who have lost their parents or legal guardians or adoptive parents or living parents due to the COVID-19 pandemic between 11 March 2020 and 28 February 2022.

Children who have lost one or both parents or guardians due to Covid-19 and are below the age of 18 years are eligible to apply for PM Care Children Scheme.
Benefits of Pradhan Mantri Child Care Scheme
Under PM Care Children Scheme, each student gets financial assistance of Rs. 50,000 every year for their studies. Degree students joining in the first year will get assistance for a maximum of 4 years and diploma students will get assistance for a maximum of 3 years. This money is given in one go for payment of college fees, computers, stationery, books, equipment, software, etc.
- Under the Mission Vatsalya scheme, children living with relatives can get up to Rs. 4000 per month.
- Under this scheme, they can get admission in the nearest Kendriya Vidyalaya/Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya or private schools.
- All children studying in classes 1-12 will get a scholarship of Rs. 20,000.
- Assistance will also be provided to avail educational loans for professional courses/higher education in India. The interest on those loans will be borne by the PM CARES fund.
- Eligible children will get health insurance cover of Rs. 5 lakh under the ‘Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri-Jana Arogya Yojana’ (AB PM-JAY). This health insurance cover is applicable till they reach the age of 23 years.
- Under the PM CARES scheme, children will get support to live independently, gain self-confidence and motivation.
