The government has issued a draft notification stating that primary school teachers teaching classes 1 to 5 in the state will be eligible only if they have passed the TET exam for classes 6 and 7.
The Karnataka government, which has issued a gazette notification in this regard, has stated that primary school teachers teaching classes 1 to 5 shall be eligible to teach classes 6 and 7 if they possess a degree in the required subjects and a TET certificate as specified in the NCTE guidelines and the cadre and recruitment rules in force for the post of graduate primary teachers.
The Government of Karnataka, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 8 read with sub-section (1) of section 3 of the Karnataka Civil Services Act, 1978 (Karnataka Act 14 of 1990), intends to amend the Karnataka Education Department Services (Public Education Department) (Recruitment) Rules, 1967 as follows, and hereby publishes the notice required in clause (a) of sub-section (2) of section 3 of the said Act for the information of all persons likely to be affected thereby. And it is hereby notified that the said draft amendment rules shall be taken into consideration after 15 days from the date of their publication in the Karnataka Gazette.
The State Government shall consider any objections or suggestions received from any person within the prescribed period in respect of the said draft amendment rules. Objections and suggestions should be sent to the Principal Secretary to the Government, Department of School Education and Literacy, 6th Floor, Multi-Storey Building, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Road, Bangalore -560 001.
Draft Rules
- Title and Commencement: (1) These rules may be called the Karnataka Education Department Services (Public Education Department) (Recruitment) (Amendment) Rules, 2025.
(2) These rules shall come into force from the date of their final publication in the Karnataka Gazette.
- Amendment of Table: In the table of the Karnataka Education Department Services (Public Education Department) (Recruitment) Rules, 1967, under the heading “Class III Non-Grade Posts”, in column number (3) of the Primary School Teachers in Classes 1 to 5 in Serial No. 66:-
1) the existing note shall be numbered as Note-1: and
2) the following shall be inserted, numbered accordingly. That is, after Note-1, it has been clarified that the following
Note-2 – Primary school teachers teaching classes 1 to 5 shall be eligible to teach classes 6 and 7, if they possess a degree in the required subjects and a TET certificate as specified in the NCTE guidelines and in the cadre and recruitment rules in force for the post of Graduate Primary Teachers.
