Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda said that the process of providing drought compensation up to Rs 2,000 to farmers who have suffered crop loss due to drought will be launched in Challakere of Chitradurga district within a week.
Responding to the discussion on drought in the state on Monday, he said that in June of the current year, 57 percent (less), July 29 percent (more), August 73 percent (less), September 10 percent and October 10 percent. He said there was less rain by 65 percent.
Sowing target was 85.95 lakh hectares. An area of 74 lakh hectares was sown. Agricultural crops were lost in 46 lakh hectares and 1 lakh hectares due to lack of rain. Krishna Byregowda said that 223 taluks were declared drought-affected in three phases respectively.

Similarly, the central government has also been requested to submit a memorandum in the months of September, October and November and provide assistance of Rs 18,171 crore under the NDRF.
