Just sit at home and ‘change’ your name in ‘PAN’ card like this

If for some reason the name is printed wrongly while making the PAN card, you no longer need to visit the government offices. In fact, this process can now be done online sitting at home and the correct name can be reprinted on the PAN card.

If you want to update the name in your PAN card, today we are going to tell you the process.

1. First, visit the Income Tax Department website.
2. Click on “Online Services” tab.
3. Under “PAN Services”, click on “Request for PAN Card Reprint / Correction / Change of Address”.
4. Click on “Apply Online”.
5. Now, enter your PAN number, date of birth and gender.
6. Click on the “I’m not a robot” check box.
7. Click on “Submit”.
8. Now, you will see a new page where you need to enter the necessary information to improve your name. It includes:

Your Current Name: This is your current name written incorrectly on your PAN card.
Your Correct Name: This is your correct name which you want to print on your PAN card.

9. After you have entered all the information, click “Submit”. You will receive an acknowledgment number. Keep this acknowledgment number carefully as you will need it for future reference. It may take 15-20 days to approve your name change request. After your name change request is approved, you will receive a new PAN card with your correct name printed on it.

Note that if your name change request is not approved, you will get a show cause notice. This notice will provide reasons for rejecting your name change request. If you do not agree with these reasons, you can appeal them.

If you don’t want to make name change request online, you can request name change offline as well. For this, you need to follow these steps:

1. Download PAN Card Amendment Form from Income Tax Department website.
2. Fill the form carefully and attach all the required documents.
3. Submit the form to your nearest PAN Card Issuing Authority (PCIA) office.
   PCIA will accept or reject your name change request within 15-20 days. After your name change request is approved, you will receive a new PAN card with your correct name printed on it.

Documents required

For name change request you need to attach the following documents:

PAN Card: This is your current PAN card with wrong name printed on it.
Aadhaar Card: This is your Aadhaar Card which is proof of your correct name.
Marriage Certificate: If you have changed your name after marriage then you need to attach your marriage certificate.
Divorce Certificate: If you have changed your name after divorce then you need to attach your divorce certificate.
Court Order: If you have legally changed your name you should attach the relevant court order.

Name Correction Fee : The fee for name change is ₹ 100. If you request name change online, you can pay this fee through debit card, credit card or net banking. If you request name change offline you will have to pay the fee through Demand Draft.
