Gadag (गदग) is a district in Northern Karnataka. Gadag town is the center of this district. Gadag was part of the Dharwad district until a few years ago. The population of this district is about 1 lakh.
Karnataka is a district in the state of Karnataka. The district was separated from Dharwad district in 1997. As of 2011, Gadag District had a population of 971,952 (of which 35.21 percent were city as of 2001). Between 1991 and 2001, the overall population increased by 13.14 percent. Gadag district is Bagalkot district in the north, Koppal district in the east, Bellary district in the southeast, Haveri district in the southwest, Dharwad district in the west and Belgaum district in the northwest. The district has monuments (mainly Jain and Hindu temples) from the Western Chalukya Empire. The district of Gadag contains seven tahsils:
