Chikkamagaluru district

Chikkamagaluru district was known as Kadur district until 1947. It is located roughly in the southwestern part of the state of Karnataka.

One of the major areas of this district is Malnad, which means heavy rainforest and hilly terrain. It is the name of the little daughter town – Chikka + daughter + Uru (in Kannada) .

The youngest daughter of Rukmanga, the famous head of Sakrepatna, is said to have been given a dowry. But some old inscriptions say that these two places are called Kiria-Muguli and Piria-Muguli.

Stylish architecture combines the Jamia Mosque and the new St. Jeppesph Cathedral with an attractive shell shaped portico. There is a shrine.
