Masked Aadhaar Benefits: What is Masked Aadhaar? What is the benefit to users?
For this, masked Aadhaar cards can be used to keep Aadhaar cards safe.
A late-October report by US-based Cyber Security Institute Resecurity revealed that the personally identifiable information of 815 million Indians is available for sale on the dark web. Details like Aadhaar and passport information along with names, phone numbers and addresses are available for sale online. The disclosure of this information shows how serious the threat of digital identity theft is in India, the report announced.
As people increasingly rely on digital forms of payments through Aadhaar card verifications, it is imperative that individuals protect their identities through measures such as locking biometrics and generating masked Aadhaar cards.
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced preventive measures to prevent identity theft and misuse. A masked Aadhaar can be used for verification purposes like a normal Aadhaar card, except for government benefit transactions where the full Aadhaar number is required. Here’s everything you need to know about Masked Aadhaar Card and how to download it.
What is Masked Aadhaar?
Masked Aadhaar is a version of the normal Aadhaar card where the first 8 digits of the Aadhaar number are replaced with letters like “xxxx-xxxx”, only the last 4 digits are visible. This masking increases security and protects the individual’s identity. By not displaying the full 12-digit Aadhaar number, a masked Aadhaar card provides additional security.
